Noida International Airport Set to Become Global Trade Gateway as Cargo Hub Powers Logistics Boom

Noida: At Jewar, the upcoming Noida International Airport is rapidly evolving beyond a passenger facility into one of India’s most ambitious cargo and logistics hubs—positioned to transform Uttar Pradesh into a global trade gateway. With a dedicated cargo terminal, multimodal connectivity, and specialized cargo corridors linking industrial clusters directly to the airfield, the project is set to deliver a major boost to exports, imports, and supply chain efficiency across North India.

A state-of-the-art cargo complex spanning nearly 80,000 square meters has been planned within the airport premises. In its first phase, the cargo terminal is being built with a handling capacity of around 2 million metric tonnes, with a long-term target to scale this up to 8 million metric tonnes. Additionally, an initial operational handling capacity of 0.25 million tonnes per year has been developed, which will be expanded to approximately 1.5 million tonnes annually as operations scale.

What sets Jewar apart is its design as a multimodal cargo hub. Seamless integration of air transport with expressway connectivity—and potential rail links in the future—will allow goods to move directly from factories to aircraft with minimal delay. Dedicated cargo routes under construction will ensure uninterrupted movement from the fast-growing industrial clusters along the Yamuna Expressway, home to electronics, e-commerce, warehousing, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing units.

This infrastructure will enable industries to adopt a ‘just-in-time’ supply model, cutting logistics costs and ensuring faster access to global markets. For a landlocked state like Uttar Pradesh, the cargo hub effectively bridges the gap to international trade networks.

Industry veterans echoed these sentiments during the inauguration of Phase 1 of the airport and the foundation laying of the MRO facility. Bob Chi, CEO of Gateway Services at SATS Ltd., called the project a matter of pride and a symbol of global investment confidence. Film producer Boney Kapoor described the airport as part of a larger development vision that includes an international film city in the region, which together could turn Jewar into a new cultural and economic nucleus.

According to TS Dupare, MD & CEO of Indian Oil Skytanking Private Limited, the country’s most modern fuel farm is now ready at the airport, ensuring efficient in-plane fuelling services. Subhash Goyal highlighted how slot constraints at Indira Gandhi International Airport have limited airline expansion, a challenge Jewar is expected to resolve for Delhi, Agra, and western Uttar Pradesh.

Exporters are equally optimistic. Lalit Thukral noted that the airport’s cargo and MRO capabilities will significantly enhance global competitiveness for Noida’s export ecosystem. Banking infrastructure is also in place, with State Bank of India opening two branches inside the airport, offering forex and digital banking services for international passengers and cargo operators.

Former Gautam Buddha Nagar DM Brijesh Narayan Singh emphasized that land acquisition for the project was completed swiftly with farmer consent, turning them into key stakeholders. Security officer Maimullah Ansari pointed to the massive employment potential and urged investors to explore opportunities in the region.

As Jewar prepares to take flight, Noida International Airport is shaping up not just as an aviation facility but as a transformative logistics, industrial, and economic engine—poised to redefine Uttar Pradesh’s place on the global trade map.
