Aiming to integrate women into the economic mainstream, Sumitra Jan Kalyan Sewa Sansthan previously organized a specialized skill development program in Vaishali and its adjoining areas. The ripple effect of this grassroots initiative is now beautifully evident, as rural women who were once confined to household chores emerge as confident, independent entrepreneurs.
Bridging the Gap with Cottage Industries
Under this livelihood program, rural women were provided hands-on technical training to manufacture herbal cosmetics and personal care products that align with modern market demands. Participants learned the precise techniques for making pure aloe vera gel, herbal soaps, natural shampoos, and eco-friendly household cleaners like phenyl.
The organization’s core vision was to help rural women set up micro-cottage industries that they could manage alongside their daily domestic responsibilities, allowing them to step into self-employment seamlessly.

With consumer awareness on the rise, the market demand for chemical-free, natural herbal products has surged. Capitalizing on this trend, the trained women quickly initiated the production and local distribution of their products. Offering superior quality at pocket-friendly rates compared to commercial chemical brands, their handmade soaps and aloe vera gels found quick success in local markets, directly elevating their family incomes and standard of living.

Reflecting on their journey, the women shared that the practical knowledge provided by SJKSS did more than just ease financial burdens—it fostered a deep sense of self-worth. They expressed immense pride in contributing equally to their household expenses, ensuring better education and nutrition for their children through their own earnings.
