Sumitra Jan Kalyan Sewa Sansthan Empowers Villages Through Vermicompost Training

MUZAFFARPUR (Web Desk): A significant transformation is taking root in the rural landscape of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, as eco-friendly farming and entrepreneurship gain rapid momentum. Driven by the grassroots efforts of Sumitra Jan Kalyan Sewa Sansthan (SJKSS), a comprehensive training program previously conducted to connect rural youth and farmers with self-employment has begun yielding remarkable results on the ground. Today, several rural families are not only enriching their agricultural practices through organic inputs but are also securing a steady alternative income.

Focus on Chemical-Free Farming and Minimizing Input Costs

The specialized training initiative provided intensive practical sessions to rural youth, women, and active farmers on manufacturing vermicompost (earthworm fertilizer), organic pesticides, and neem-based agricultural inputs.
According to organization officials, the primary objective of this campaign was to reduce the excessive rural dependence on expensive, chemical-heavy fertilizers and pesticides. By teaching farmers to manufacture their own organic alternatives, the program aimed to lower overall cultivation costs and promote long-term, eco-friendly sustainable farming.

Turning Skills into Successful Local Businesses

The biggest achievement of this program is that it transcended the classroom. Post-training, several enthusiastic beneficiaries established their own small-scale vermicompost units and organic manufacturing centers within their villages.
Local farmers shared that they previously had to buy expensive chemical fertilizers from the market, which inflated their input costs and degraded soil fertility. Now, they produce high-quality organic compost right at home. These eco-friendly products are in high demand among neighboring farmers and local markets, providing these new rural entrepreneurs with a thriving business opportunity.

A Vital Step Toward Sustainable Growth

SJKSS officials emphasized that despite limited resources, this campaign achieved massive success purely through community mobilization and local cooperation. The organization firmly believes that real rural development is only possible when hands are equipped with marketable skills. These training camps have now become a milestone in curbing rural migration by creating sustainable, local employment opportunities right where the youth live.
